Key facts
- The general bonus terms apply to every offer, and a promotion page can add stricter rules: Wild Tokyo's terms say so, and National Casino's offer page sets a lower bet cap than its general terms.
- Wagering basis matters as much as the multiple: 40x on the bonus is a third of the betting of 40x on deposit plus bonus with a 50% match.
- Several casinos require every deposit to be wagered 3 times before withdrawal, bonus or not, including King Billy, Golden Crown and Spin Samurai.
- Bonus abuse is defined by ratios: King Billy and Spin Samurai name a deposits-to-bonus ratio over 50%, HellSpin a bonus ratio over 40%.
- In our calculation, a $200 bonus at 40x with 7 days to play needs about $1,143 of bets a day and costs about $320 on average at 96% RTP.
How bonus terms are structured
Every casino bonus sits under two documents. The general bonus terms cover all promotions, and each offer page or email can add its own rules on top. Wild Tokyo's and Mino Casino's general terms say promotion pages and emails can set additional rules that then apply to that promotion. Read both, and when they disagree, follow the stricter one: National Casino's first deposit page caps bets at 6.5 AUD while its general terms say 8 AUD.
These are offshore casinos. Online casino games cannot legally be offered to people in Australia, no Australian regulator reviews these terms, and many of the brands quoted here are on ACMA's blocked list.

The clauses people miss
Wagering basis (clause 2)
The multiple is half the story. A $400 deposit with a 50% match gives you $200. In our calculation:
| Terms | Bets required | Expected cost at 96% RTP |
|---|---|---|
| 40x the bonus | $8,000 | $320 |
| 40x deposit plus bonus | $24,000 | $960 |
Same "40x", three times the betting.
Deposit wagering (clause 9)
Some casinos make you bet your own money before you can take it out, bonus or not. King Billy's and Golden Crown's terms require each deposit to be wagered three times, and Spin Samurai's say any deposit must be wagered "three (3) times the deposited amount" and allow a processing fee or a refused withdrawal if not. Wild Tokyo's terms let it withhold up to 10% if your real money bets are less than three times your deposit. This is in the general terms, not the bonus terms, so declining a bonus does not switch it off.
Abuse ratios (clause 10)
"Bonus abuse" sounds like cheating, but casinos define it with ratios that ordinary players can hit. King Billy and Spin Samurai list "a deposits-to-bonus ratio exceeding 50%"; HellSpin says a bonus ratio over 40% is forbidden; Golden Crown names 70% bonus funds across 5 to 9 deposits, or 50% across 10 or more. Take a bonus on nearly every deposit and you may be in that zone.
Irregular play (clause 11)
Wild Tokyo's and Mino Casino's terms ban delaying free spins or bonus features until no wagering is left, leaving bets on table games to return to after wagering, building up in-game value with bonus money to cash out later, and making new deposits while free spins or bonus features are still active. Break one and "the casino reserves the right to cancel all winnings."
No deposit strings (clauses 6 and 12)
Free bonuses often need a deposit before you can withdraw. SkyCrown says it is "necessary to make at least one valid deposit"; HellSpin and Bizzo want a 20 EUR deposit; Wanted Win needs a minimal deposit before no deposit winnings can be paid. Our no deposit bonus guide covers the caps.
Worked example: reading one offer end to end
Take a $200 bonus under LuckyOnes' general bonus terms: 40 times the bonus, 7 days, AUD 8 maximum bet, deposit bonus winnings capped at AUD 5,000. In our calculation:
- Bets required: 40 x $200 = $8,000.
- Per day over 7 days: about $1,143.
- At the AUD 8 cap: at least 1,000 spins; at $1 a spin, 8,000 spins, or about 1,143 a day.
- Expected cost at 96% RTP: $8,000 x 4% = $320, which is $120 more than the bonus.
- Best case: winnings above AUD 5,000 are not paid.
That is a lot of betting to fit into a week. Plug in any offer with the wagering requirements calculator.
Pundit tip: read the terms in this order: wagering basis, time limit, maximum bet, excluded games, winnings cap. If any one of them is a dealbreaker, you can stop reading.
A five-minute checklist before you opt in
- Is the wagering on the bonus, or on deposit plus bonus?
- Can you realistically bet the total in the time allowed, at a stake under the cap?
- Are the pokies you play on the excluded list?
- Is the bonus sticky or non-sticky? See the sticky bonus guide.
- What is the maximum bet, and does it include bonus buys? See the max bet rule guide.
- Is there a cap on winnings, and is it a fixed amount or a multiple of the bonus?
- Does the casino require deposits to be wagered before any withdrawal?
- What are the withdrawal limits once you win? See casino withdrawal limits.
Special cases: reloads, cashback and free spins
Recurring offers carry the same clauses with smaller numbers; the reload bonus guide runs the maths on weekly matches, and the casino cashback guide explains why cashback is often wagered too.
If a casino applies a clause you think is wrong, keep screenshots of the offer and terms as they were when you opted in. Offshore casinos are outside Australian dispute services; our casino complaints guide sets out what options you do have.

Frequently asked questions
What are casino bonus terms and conditions?
The rules attached to a bonus: how many times you must bet it, which games count, the largest bet allowed, the time limit, any cap on winnings, and what voids the bonus. A casino's general bonus terms apply to every promotion unless the offer page adds its own.
What is the most important bonus term?
The wagering requirement, read together with its basis. 40x the bonus on a $200 bonus is $8,000 of bets; 40x deposit plus bonus with a $400 deposit is $24,000. At 96% RTP the second costs about $960 on average if you play it all.
What does a 3x deposit rule mean?
Some casinos require you to bet each deposit three times before you can withdraw it, even without a bonus. King Billy, Golden Crown and Spin Samurai have this rule, and Wild Tokyo can withhold up to 10% if you withdraw after betting less than three times your deposit.
What counts as bonus abuse?
Each casino defines it. King Billy and Spin Samurai list a deposits-to-bonus ratio over 50%; HellSpin calls a bonus ratio over 40% forbidden; Wild Tokyo's terms ban delaying bonus rounds until wagering is done or depositing again while free spins are still running.
Can a casino change bonus terms after I accept?
Terms are set by the casino, and offshore casinos are not checked by an Australian regulator. Screenshot the offer page and the general bonus terms on the day you opt in, so you have a record if there is a dispute.
Do bonus terms apply if I decline the bonus?
Bonus terms do not, but the general terms still do, such as any 3x deposit wagering rule, withdrawal limits and verification. Declining removes the wagering, maximum bet and excluded games rules.
