MiFinity casinos Australia: how the eWallet works, its fees and payout times

MiFinity is an eWallet that sits between your bank and a casino. Here is who regulates it, what it charges an Australian user, and how long money takes to come back out.

Key facts

  • MiFinity UK Limited is authorised by the UK Financial Conduct Authority as an e-money issuer (register ref. 900090); Mifinity Malta Limited by the Malta Financial Services Authority.
  • Australia is not on MiFinity's list of non-serviced countries, and the Australian dollar is one of its 18 wallet currencies.
  • A personal account is free, but top-ups cost money: 2.5% to 4% by card, 4.5% by A$ eVoucher, 1.8% by crypto, plus up to 2.99% to convert currencies.
  • MiFinity says to allow 1 to 2 working days for a withdrawal to arrive, and a withdrawal held for ID checks can take up to 24 hours to review.
  • After 12 months without logging in, an account becomes inactive and is charged EUR 1 a month.

What MiFinity is

MiFinity is an eWallet: you load money into it, pay a website from the wallet, and receive withdrawals back into it. The casino sees your MiFinity account, not your bank details. MiFinity says you can hold up to nine wallets in different currencies, fund them through more than 80 payment methods, and withdraw to a card, a bank account or crypto. Its app is free on Android and iOS. Skrill and Neteller are eWallets of the same kind, each with its own Australian fee table.

It is regulated overseas. MiFinity UK Limited is authorised by the UK Financial Conduct Authority under the Electronic Money Regulations 2011 (register ref. 900090), and Mifinity Malta Limited is authorised by the Malta Financial Services Authority. Neither is an Australian licence.

Can Australians use MiFinity?

Australia is not on MiFinity's list of non-serviced countries, which names places such as the United States, Russia and Iran. The Australian dollar is one of the 18 currencies its developer documentation lists for wallets, alongside the euro, the pound and the New Zealand dollar. Keeping an AUD wallet matters, because it is how you avoid paying to convert money twice.

MiFinity fees for an Australian user

The account itself is free for personal use. The costs are in getting money in, converting it and leaving it idle. From MiFinity's fee page:

What you doFee
Top up by Visa card2.5% (non-EEA rate) or 3.5% (interregional)
Top up by Mastercard2.5% (non-EEA) or 4% (interregional)
Top up by A$ MiFinity eVoucher4.5%
Top up by crypto1.8%
Convert between currenciesUp to 2.99% above wholesale, up to 3.99% for less common pairs
Send to friends and family1%, capped at EUR 10
Move between your own MiFinity walletsFree
Receive moneyFree
No login for 12 monthsEUR 1 a month from the balance

The fee page groups card rates by region rather than by country, so check which rate MiFinity applies to your card on the top-up screen.

Worked example: what a deposit costs

Say you top up $200 and the casino holds your balance in Australian dollars:

  • By Visa at 2.5%: $5.00 in fees.
  • By Visa at the 3.5% interregional rate: $7.00.
  • By A$ eVoucher at 4.5%: $9.00.
  • By crypto at 1.8%: $3.60, plus whatever your exchange and the network charge.

Now say the casino only offers a euro balance. Converting the $195 left after a 2.5% card top-up costs up to another 2.99%, about $5.83. If your winnings are later converted back to dollars, you pay the conversion again on the way out. A card top-up, a conversion in and a conversion back out can cost just over 8% of the money that makes the round trip: 1 - (0.975 x 0.9701 x 0.9701) = 8.2%.

MiFinity casino deposits and withdrawals

  1. Open a MiFinity account with a mobile number, email and password, and create an AUD wallet.
  2. Top up the wallet using the cheapest method available to you.
  3. In the casino cashier, choose MiFinity and approve the payment in your MiFinity account.
  4. To withdraw, request a MiFinity payout from the casino, then move the money from MiFinity to your bank or card.

Most casinos pay withdrawals to the method you deposited with. Wild Tokyo's terms say so directly, and set a AUD 30 minimum for withdrawals by "other payment methods", the group for anything that is neither a bank transfer nor crypto.

Verification and payout times

MiFinity lets you transact as soon as you sign up, but higher limits need documents. For customers outside Europe that means proof of identity with a selfie. Documents can be rejected for poor image quality or the wrong document type, so send clear colour photos.

On timing, MiFinity says to allow 1 to 2 working days for funds to arrive after a withdrawal. A withdrawal marked "On Hold KYC" is being reviewed by its payments team, which can take up to 24 hours. To withdraw to a card, you need a 4-digit code that appears on your card statement after your first successful card deposit, and MiFinity calculates the final fee when it approves the withdrawal. Add the casino's own review time, and its withdrawal limits, on top of all this.

Pundit tip: keep the MiFinity wallet and the casino balance in the same currency, ideally AUD. Each conversion can cost up to 2.99%, and you pay it in both directions.
